Tycho Brahe

In the sixteen hundreds Brahe was quite the popular one Denmark. He was born in a family that wanted him to have a profession in court, but he showed more of an interest in astronomy than in law. When Tycho's parents had his little brother, he was then kiddnapped by his uncle Joergen who was a lawyer and lived very comfortably. Tycho was known for being a very professional observational astronomer, giving the basis for the work of Johannes Kelper, and for the very interesting aspects of his life and death that he had. In 1566 Brahe was in Rostock and was in a duel and unfortuntely got the bridge of his nose sliced off, ending up with a prosthesis made up of precious metals. After having his nose prosthetic he carried around nose goo to either polish it or to surure his "new nose" more firmly. For three years he attended University of Copenhagen then traveled around Germany through 1562 to 1576 studying at many different universities and worked with different scholars as well. Tycho was first publisized when in 1572 a "new star" was found which was really a supernova. In the paper he told how he felt the world system of Copernicus was mathematically above others, but physically it was wrong.

Tycho Brahe accomplished many things in his long life time. A few of his accomplishments are finding a new star that was so bright it could be seen during the day, and lasted for 18 months. From the astronomical and theological views they had many questions, like if the "new star" was a sign of a cause of problems with our earth or if it was more so just a change in the solar system that would not affect us much at all. The scientist he gathered with tracked the star's movements according the stars already known and saw no over all movement. After Brahe had finished building a new sextant, that even had a table of corrections, he was very much ahead of his competition. Tycho studied more about this new star which is now known as a nova and published his findings and methods just the next year. After the publishing he was asked to teach an astronomy class by many scholars, but refused, then forced by the kind to do so. After deciding to move down to Baisle and Switzerland he was offered many places to live, but chose an island called Hveen given to him with villages and farms along with inhabitants which where made his subjects. He live very lavishly and continued his work in studying the stars. After a few years it was known that Tycho treated his family and servants in very cruel ways. For example, if they didnt do what he asked it was heard he would chain them up. Unfortanitly after the King died in 1588 and a new younger king came along, his budget was cut to a more reasonable wage.

Tycho's contributions to astronomy where colossal. He built instruments and checked their acuracy all the time. The way Brahe worked noticeably changed the way the astronomers back then worked also. While the others studied the planets in certain points in there orbit, Tycho and his assistants studied the planets and the moon all throughout their orbits and in doing that he found many unknown abnormalities that no one had yet noticed. With out these findings a man named Kelper would not have descovered that the planets move in an elliptical orbit. Tycho was also was the first person to find a mistake or two in the atmospheric refraction which with his corrections greatly decreased the arc minute in observations made by other astronomers. He also was some what of a footnote in many books on the earth being the center of the solar system and disaproving saying the sun was the center called the Copernican theory instead, but that was merly a low point in his career.
