Edmond Halley was born the 8th of November, 1656. He was born in haggerston, England. His father was a soapboiler. When Halley was a young boy he liked to study math, he went to St. pauls school, then after he went to Oxford, when halley was still in collage he wrote papers on the solar system and he was intrested in sunspots. Halley also ddid research on the moon and mars. In collage he droped out without even taking his final exam and he sailed to St. Helena where he graphed the stars in the southern sky. After Halley got back the people also found out he had studied the mercury transit of November 7, 1677. Then he was elected to the Royal Society and soon after that King Charles 2 graduated him by mandate. After traveling europe he was eventully appointed salivian at oxford. Halley observed many comets and counculated their orbit he guessed were two of the comets will go and he was correct.

contributions

Halley observed many comets in his day, once he was observing a comet by Calais, and then travelled to Paris where, together with Cassinni, he made further observations in a attempt to follow its orbit. Halley spent most of his time in italy in the year 1681 mapping and following stars. Back in England in the year following 1681 Halley married Mary tooke, at the same time halley's father remarrired, sadly halleys mom died ten years earlier. Since Halley made observations on the moon and on mars, there are craters on them with his name, the one on the moon called the Halley crater, and the one on Mars is also called the Halley crater. Halleys whole life was making observations on planets, stars, moons, and also comets, thats what really made him famous because he would spot comets and track them and predict where they would go.

Later Year’s

In Halley’s life had discovered many comet’s but one that he favored he tracked for years; he Named it Halley’s Comet. Also in 1714 and 1715 Edmonds later years he calculates the shadow path of the solar eclipse, he also observed the total eclipse called Baily’s Beads. Then in 1716 he builds a diving bell, he also suggest a high precision measurement of the Sun-earth distance by timing the transit of Venus. In 1718 Halley said that the Northern lights are caused by solar wind going against the Earths magnetic field. Then in 1720 Edmond Halley was appointed as the second astronomer Royal of England. Edmond Halley died Jan 14, 1742, Halley died of natural causes when he was 85.
